Remote server DVR: Why you should sign up with a network DVR service.

"Network DVR" is a system that will allow TV viewers to record TV shows and store them on their own private space on a hard disk that is housed and managed on dvr servers (in a central location) which belong to the DVR company. This eliminates all the difficulty of the user having his own hard disk in a box atop his TV. In early August 2008, the court ruled that Remote Storage DVR as proposed by Cablevision would be legal, that is, that it would not violate copyright law.

As networkde DVR services become more popular, people will welcome the ease and simplicity of just recording the TV shows they want right onto the central DVR server that's in a huge data center somewhere. No longer will DVR customers need to worry about their own piece of DVR equipment failing or being damaged by a lightning storm. They'll simply subscribe to a centralized network DVR service.

Bullet DVR™ Releases a Portable Video Recorder for Motorsports Enthusiasts
Bullet DVR™ has released a highly-innovative product geared towards motorsports. Now racers can capture audio and video from their cars, motorcycles and any other vehicles. This solid-state DVR has no moving parts and can withstand the roughest and toughest terrain. Recorded directly to a Compact Flash memory card, a built-in lap timer allows racers to overlay their lap time information on screen, over the recorded video.

One advantage of a network DVR service is that it would allow subscribers to record 4 or more TV shows that are being broadcast simultaneously. Another plus is that consumers won't have to buy an expensive set-top box for recording video. The selection and range of available programming will likely be huge compared to the current non-network DVR services. One possible disadvantage might be that users might be forced to see a few commercials, as the centralized dvr systems could disable fast-forwarding at some points in the replay.
